Blend 2 September Preview first impressions
Whoohoo… Ive been on the road and really busy so haven’t had a chance to download and install September preview until today.
My impressions:
SplitView – This is worth the price of admission alone. Way back in the day when I was of but just a handful of people not on the Blend team actually using Blend I was asked what my #1 feature request was… It was and has always been SplitView…Glad its finally here. My productivity has already been amped because of this.
Make Fil Fortes happy and set your font to Consolas.
Make Dr. WPF happy and set it to insert spaces rather than tabs.
Keyspline Editor for animations! Easing controls in previous versions of Blend were so difficult for me I didnt waste time trying to edit KeySplines and just used Acceleration/DecelerationRatio… Now I can create some very finely tuned easing effects.
Storyboard Properties – Right now there are only AutoReverse and RepeatBehavior exposed here… We should get Acceleration/DecelerationRatio here as well. Oh and how about DesiredFrameRate… Point is… I am glad we have a method for getting to these things now… The future is bright for storyboards and animations.
Vertex Animations – finally we have a tool… Nuf said.
Breadcrumb Bar – honestly didnt know this was coming but its very welcome. Very cool. This allows very quick access to templates… Even better it lets you know when an element has a template or a style set on it.
Finally a quicker way to understand your editing context.
I still feel like Styles are getting treated as second class citizens compared to Templates but at least they get a little palette icon now.
Nice job blend team!
